Second Annual Bridge e-Waste Drive a Huge Success!

East Greenwich, R.I., October 13, 2011 – On Saturday, September 24, 2011, Bridge hosted an e-Waste Drive in Warwick, RI, with proceeds to benefit First Lutheran Church of East Greenwich.

Bridge would like to thank everyone who came out for our e-Waste Drive two weeks ago.   We were so happy to see the familiar faces of those who came out to support us, and we were excited to meet others who were willing to make an effort to help us protect our environment.

We are proud to report that we collected tons of old electronic waste – literally, tons.   At the end of the day, we had obtained over 3,900 pounds of TVs, computers and monitors.  We also collected over 735 smaller electronic items, like printers, VCRs, gaming systems, and piles of cables and wire.   This event was a great success, and we owe it to all of our community members for the excellent turnout.

In addition to all of the e-waste that will now be properly recycled, we collected $654 in donations.   Bridge matched this amount, and we were able to present First Lutheran Church with a check for $1308 that will directly benefit our community.

A big thank you goes out to Gabriella Devine, a senior at East Greenwich High School, who helped us organize this event as part of her senior project.   We would also like to thank Texas Roadhouse for allowing us to host the drive in their parking lot, as well as Best Buy and Comcast for recycling the items we collected.

For the folks who missed the event, don’t worry – we’ll be holding another one in the spring!
