As you know by now if you’ve been following our blog, here at Bridge we are passionate about recycling e-waste, one of the fastest growing forms of waste. Many people simply throw away their old phones, laptops, or monitors without realizing the value of recycling them. But – our tech is made of valuable and recoverable parts such as aluminum, copper, gold, silver, plastics, and ferrous metals. Let’s recycle that!!

This month we’re working with Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island to run an E-Waste Drive at our Rhode Island office location. Any revenue raised from your donations will help Goodwill continue to offer educational and training opportunities for Rhode Islanders with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Below is a list of what we can accept:

  • Computers
  • Laptops
  • Flat screen monitors
  • Peripherals
  • Audio equipment
  • Video equipment
  • Electronics
  • Toner/Printer cartridges
  • File cabinets
  • Metal shelving
  • Small household appliances
  • Floor model copy machines

Unfortunately, we cannot accept:

  • Televisions
  • Desktop printers
  • CRT Monitors
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Single-use Alkaline batteries

We are ever so  grateful for your donations! If you have e-waste you would like to donate, please bring it to 650 Ten Rod Road North Kingstown, RI 02852 and make sure to say hi to our team. If you have items not listed or any other questions you can contact Goodwill at (401) 861-2080 ext. 144.

Celebrate Earth Day – Go Green

Earth Day – Tuesday, April 22 this year – is a chance for us to remember all of the different ways we can help the environment, but why limit our environmental efforts to just one day?  Take positive steps toward a greener planet throughout the year by giving your time to important environmental initiatives and by going green on a daily basis.

Volunteer for clean-ups in your area.  Recycle bottles, cans and glass.  Don’t litter!  Throw trash where it belongs – in trash cans.  Donate old clothes instead of throwing them away.  These are just a few of the simple actions you can take to make our world a greener place.  There are even free workshops available that will help you learn how to keep a household, school or business green year-round.  Visit your town or city website for ideas on how to get involved in your community.

If you are located in RI, here’s a great way to take positive environmental action this Earth Day:

Bridge’s April 2013 e-Waste Drive – On Saturday, April 26, you can recycle your e-waste at our drive from 9am until 12 noon at the Texas Roadhouse, Warwick parking lot.

Bridge's April 2013 e-Waste DriveWHERE:   Texas Roadhouse parking lot
1200 Quaker Lane, Warwick, RI, 02886

  WHEN:   Saturday, April 26, 2013,
                 9 am – 12 noon

Our April event will be the seventh e- Waste Drive Bridge has organized since 2009.  Our goal for this drive is to collect and properly recycle 5 tons of e-Waste!  With your help, we can make this our most successful e-Waste Drive yet!

We look forward to seeing you there.

Another Green Win for Bridge!

We are happy to report that with the help of our friends, neighbors and colleagues, we recycled 3.7 tons of electronic waste at our drive last Saturday, nearly doubling the amount of e-waste we collected back in September!

We collected 7,451 pounds of e-waste!  That’s almost 3 ¾ tons!  We are proud to count this initiative as a local achievement for Earth Day 2012.  Everyone’s efforts last weekend also contributed to the requirements recently set by the State of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) to recycle a minimum of 35% and divert from landfills at least 50% of each town’s waste.  It is truly encouraging to see our communities taking positive environmental action even before these requirements go into effect.

In addition to all of the e-waste that will now be properly recycled and not wrongly discarded in a landfill, we collected $986 in donations.  Bridge matched $1,000 to this amount, and we were able to donate a total of $1,986 to the First Lutheran Church of East Greenwich to fund Oceans of Grace, First Lutheran’s outreach ministry.

  • Office Recycling Solutions, who not only donated the use of their trucks and their employees’ time but also assumed the responsibility of taking away and sustainably disposing of all the e-waste dropped off.  Due to the tremendous turnout, we needed a second truck to transport all of the electronics!
  • Everyone who participated!  Let’s make an effort to sustain our Earth Day initiatives year-round – when we work together, each of our contributions can make a big difference!

We wish you all a great and green EARTH WEEK 2012!

– The Bridge Team
